Introduction to AIFE and Case Study:
Austech Institute for Further Education was recently recognised as Australia's 4th fastest growing company in 2008. This is a great accomplishment, especially considering that the CEO and owner Mr Bajwa was a taxi driver in 2002. Anyone would be proud of this growth.
The secret? Well that would be telling. But I would say that vision, good leadership, and good management have alot to do with it.
Certification to ISO 9001 and AS/NZS 4801 and the benefits of standards compliance was a top priority for AIFE. However Quality Assurance was never the focus of one department; everyone contributed brilliantly under the direction of Assistant CEO Umesh Banga and the Compliance department under the management of Kevin Song.
On the day of certification, Kevin and the team were very ready. All staff were primed and went beyond the call of duty to help out the Auditor.
One funny experience was when the Assistant CEO, was asked to explain the objectives of AIFE. He humbly told the Auditor the growth target of AIFE was 10% per annum as per the business plan. The growth objective was such an understatement, and was typical of the good work accomplished at all levels of AIFE.
A successful audit netted much praise from the Auditor and no corrective actions at all. The Auditor commented in the closing meeting that "The system is more advanced and people more compliant than most".
